Haywards were contracted, and successfully completed, the fabrication, surface treatment and delivery of the 6 supporting legs in 2007.

Following to demolition of the first wheel Haywards were contracted to fabricate, surface treat and deliver the 14 frames making up the new circular rim section of the new wheel. The frames were shipped to Melbourne in 28 trailer loads.

The tight construction tolerances required many parts to be machined and each assembly to be fabricated to X,Y,Z co-ordinates and survey checked throughout the process. The strict welding codes specified also required the development of unique welding processes and procedures.
